Accreditation, Training and Identification

Instructors are required to gain NGB accreditation when they join or commence teaching Taekwondo in a BTC registered club.  This accreditation is mandatory and renewed every three years, comprising:

  • BTC Registered Instructors Course (BTC Policies and Procedures - DBS/PVG/AccessNI Disclosure, Code of Conduct and Ethics, Equity, Communications and Social Media, Health and Safety, Insurance)
  • Enhanced DBS/PVG Scheme/AccessNI Certificate
  • BTC Basic Safeguarding Awareness Certificate
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • Current membership of BTC via a Member Organisation/Group/Club

Confirmation of a BTC Registered Instructor's status is detailed in their personal profile - go to Members on the blue tab above and search on forename and/or surname.  Registered Instructors are requested to check their BTC profile and update their training and qualifications as and when required.

Additional BTC courses available:

  • Welfare Officer Course (Advanced Standards in Safeguarding accredited by NSPCC and the Ann Craft Trust) is offered to club instructors (optional) and Club Welfare Officers (mandatory)
  • Equity in your Coaching
  • Involving Children and Young People
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Association Safeguarding Officers

BTC signpost Registered Instructors to other relevant sources of information, advice, guidance and CPD training, in particular UK Coaching, Buddle and their local Active Partnership, which can assist in the further development of their coaching skills and club development.

UPDATE 18TH MAY 2026

British Taekwondo Council (BTC), National Governing Body for Taekwondo in the UK, are changing the way we enrol and deliver NGB accreditation to eligible instructors.

  1. Please use the link on the course detailed on the Events page to book and pay £125 for a place on the next BTC Registered Instructor and Basic Safeguarding Awareness courses, providing the requested details.  The next course date is Sunday 5th July 2026, 9am – 3.30pm.
  1. Please use the relevant DBS/PVG/AccessNI link below to initiate the due process.  DBS and PVG application forms should be emailed to [email protected]
  • DBS application form (England, Wales, Channel Islands and IOM) – see new process detailed below
  • PVG application form (Scotland) – process as before
  • AccessNI application process (Northern Ireland) – process as before
  1. The DBS process has changed as follows:
  • BTC receive your DBS application form (above)
  • You will receive an email request to complete screening details from uCheck, which will generate an Application Reference
  • You will then receive an email request to complete digital ID verification via TrustID (biometric passport and mobile phone required, takes about 5 minutes)
  • BTC will receive a notification from uCheck when your Enhanced DBS check is complete and update your BTC personal profile
  • You will receive your DBS certificate in the post
  • BTC does not need a copy of your DBS certificate unless requested (eg audit) or an instructor is identified on a Barred List
  1. BTC will provide you with the Zoom log-in for the courses when they are notified that your ID/DBS/PVG checks have been initiated.
  1. The BTC/PVG/AccessNI Policy booklet is being updated and made available on the BTC website as soon as possible.
  1. BTC Policies are available on the BTC website for instructors to read prior to the course and raise any questions on the training day.
  1. If you are already a BTC Registered Instructor, please check your BTC profile to ensure your contact details are current and correct, that your profile photo is up to date and that you have added details of your club(s) under ‘View Profile’, ensuring that town, county and postcodes are entered in the correct lines to be able to show on the BTC ‘Find a Club’ listing.
  1. If you are a new instructor, BTC will create your personal profile when you have completed the course and your DBS/PVG/AccessNI reference numbers are available.

PLEASE NOTE:  It is each individual BTC Registered Instructor’s personal responsibility to ensure that they complete the above process, that their BTC profile is correct, that they comply with all NGB accreditation requirements (detailed on the BTC website) and that they advise BTC and their BTC Member Organisation if they relinquish their instructor role.  BTC Administration will regularly review the Registered Instructors listed on our website.  Any instructor showing as ‘EXPIRED’ will be made inactive.

This course will inaugurate the new DBS process and we thank you for your co-operation as we work through it together.

This information has been sent to all BTC Instructors direct.  Member Organisations will of course remain your first point of contact as there may be separate or different administration arrangements in place for instructors within Member Organisations to gain or renew their NGB accreditation.  BTC Administration will be aware of these Member Organisations' arrangements and will refer any direct applications to their Member Organisation if we have been requested to do so.

BTC Registered Instructors have the following identification.

We consider it a compliment if asked to produce this documentation before any contract is agreed for Hall Hire.
